Biography Of
Lawrence W. Wuensch, CEcD
Changes in the Aviation Industry Since September 11
Since
the deregulation of the airlines during the Reagan Administration, smaller
airports have been at a disadvantage when dealing with the carriers. Trends
such as “fortress hubs” and consolidation have focused service in the largest
airports and concepts of convenience and customer service have given way to
efficiency. On 9/11, many carriers used the temporary closing of the New York
and Washington airports to trim their routes even more. Melbourne lost two of
its three carriers as a result. Mr. Wuensch will discuss the efforts to attract
additional carriers to Melbourne and the current state of the airline industry
that impacts this effort.
