Biography Of Bob Young "Defining the Value Stream through the Supply Chain" The traditional focus of Operations Management is to effectively manage a captive manufacturing organization we own and therefore could exert a large amount of control. Well, times have changed! We have outsourced everything we do not consider a core competency to suppliers better suited to add value to our products. We are now faced with managing “virtual factory” we neither own nor control. By defining the Value Stream through the supply chain we may better understand the potential problems that may exist. About the speaker: Bob Young is the Director of Continuous Improvement for DRS S&TS Optronics Division. He joined DRS in June 2003. Mr. Young has a solid background in Quality, Manufacturing Systems, and Engineering. During a twenty two-year career with Motorola, he served as the Director of New Product Introduction, Advanced Manufacturing Technology, Technical Operations, and Quality. Mr. Young is responsible for the Continuous Improvement environment at DRS S&TS Optronics Division which includes Lean and Six Sigma data driven methods. Mr. Young holds an Associate degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology; a Bachelor of Science degree in Operations Management from Northeastern University; and a Master of Science degree in Computer Information Systems from McCallum School of Business at Bentley College. He is a Senior Member of the American Society of Quality, an ASQ-certified Six Sigma Black Belt, and an ASQ-certified Manager of Quality / Organizational Excellence.
