Generational Diversity in the Workplace Walk through the halls of corporate America and it is easy to see and hear the new diversity among us – Generational Diversity. For the first time in history, there are four very distinct generations in the workforce: The Veterans, the Baby Boomers, Generation X, and the newest and youngest workers, the Millennials. With each generation so different, this can present unique challenges for organizations and managers who wish to understand how to motivate and retain them, quickly learning that the past “one-size fits all” approach is no longer appropriate. This diversity of generations presents not only challenges, but also opportunities to embrace their unique perspectives and different ways of relating to their environment. These differences, brought on by experiences throughout their lives, truly shape their expectations, ways of working, and attitudes about the workplace. This presentation will explain each unique generation, what motivates them, and key techniques for managing and teaming with diverse generations.
